Representative rounded model: about 800 solar diameters. Stellar size is approximate and depends on the observed boundary.
This is where our starter journey takes its largest leap. The displayed model uses a rounded diameter of about 800 Suns, inspired by ESO’s description of Betelgeuse as almost 800 times the size of the Sun. It is a representative comparison, not an exact boundary measurement.
A star without a neat edge
Betelgeuse is not a rigid, perfectly round ball. Its visible structure and the way observations define its outer layers complicate the question “How big is it?” Different wavelengths and methods can produce different apparent dimensions.
Let the tiny point stay tiny
Compare Betelgeuse with the Sun. We preserve the true ratio of this approximate model instead of enlarging the Sun for effect. A locator helps you find it, and the numbers describe what your screen cannot resolve. Try the Sun versus Betelgeuse.
